萨拉托加指的是一段连续战事，不能视为一次单独的冲击。9月19日，伯戈因的军队守住弗里曼农场的战场，却未能打开通往奥尔巴尼的道路。等待期间，他的粮食日益减少，而盖茨的军队不断壮大。10月7日，英军的一次武力侦察引发美军反击，先攻向巴伯麦田，继而突破布赖曼阵地。随后，撤往萨拉托加的英军陷入包围。

阿诺德的作用应限定在证据范围内
