Taxila opens a route
Taxiles receives Alexander and supplies allies, but Porus rejects the demand to join the conqueror as a subject: Quintus Curtius has him answer that he will await Alexander at the frontier under arms. Diodorus adds hope of joining with Embisarus, who is still distant. Alexander has an interest in defeating Porus before that arrival; Porus can gain time behind the river without knowing where the real effort will fall.
